Why PORCH MODERN?


PORCH MODERN began quite simply as a small collection of items I found interesting from yard sales, around town...anywhere really. As I began to research items, my first "big" find was a simple Charles Eames armshell in horrible condition on the porch of a house close to mine. Researching further, I became interested in the work of the Eameses which led to the work of many other influential designers and architects.

From this humble start the collection became a little too large and began to take over my home.
PORCH MODERN the store was next. For three years here in Toronto PORCH MODERN was open.
Storefront retail was not for me and shortly after closed up shop.

PORCH MODERN sells mainly through this site, online, and a few select auction houses in Chicago and
New York for the truly exceptional pieces I come across.

I collect and sell only fine examples of craftsmanship and design. I focus on well known International designers
but do not limit myself to this. Any object I see as well designed, unique, or interesting is fair game and interests range from Bauhaus to modern day objects. I sell items from a simple Dansk candle holder to a Charles Eames Organic Design chair or a Bertoia sculpture. I am quite knowledgeable and will help you with any questions you may have. I can and will find any object you are looking for if it is not available on my site or through talking to me.

Shipping


PORCH ships internationally and only with reputable shipping or freight companies.
I use PLYCON, DHL and BAXGLOBAL for large objects, and USPS, and UPS for smaller pieces.

If you need a tracking number please contact me prior to shipping and I will arrange the easiest possible way.
Only actual shipping costs are quoted which include packaging, materials, and actual shipping costs.

Local pickups are always welcomed and I can deliver certain items upon request.

Sales Policy


Most items are vintage and will have the patina, dings, and marks to prove it.

Please ask detailed questions prior to buying to avoid any unpleasantnessas I do not describe condition
in item descriptions.

I will do my best to describe the actual condition on any given piece and will be honest in my inspection.
All sales are final.

If you believe there was a mistake in my listing or description in any way, I will certainly listen and try to
alleviate any problems that arise.

Rentals


All items are available for rental.

Rental fees are 15% of the cost of the item per day to 30% per week.
Longer periods for rental can be discussed and prices will change accordingly.

A condition report or visual inspection by the two parties will be made prior to rental .
Any damages which can be fixed are at the expense of the renter.
Any items beyond the realm of repair or that make the item unsell-able will be replaced
at the full cost to the renter plus the actual rental fees.

Payment


Payment can be made in the form of:
International money order
personal check
bank wire transfer
PAYPAL.

Other options are available and can be arranged to best suit the buyer and seller
including payment plans for larger priced items.
